2026 travel bursary stories
How TCES support helped researchers present new findings, learn techniques and forge connections around the world.
New perspectives on peripheral nerve repair
Tianyang Liu (University College London) attended the International Symposium on Peripheral Nerve Regeneration at the University of Granada, Spain. Liu presented research on local delivery of a neurotrophic-factor mRNA formulation to improve nerve regeneration, discussed results with researchers and clinicians, and took part in practical workshops on histological analysis and nerve-repair models.
Polymer innovation and infection control
Hubert Buksa attended the Bordeaux Polymer Conference in June 2026, presenting research into antimicrobial mixtures of cationic nanoparticles and polymers. The meeting offered feedback and new perspectives on polymer materials for infection control and healthcare applications.
Taking an active role at TERMIS-EU
Dr Chloe Rodgers (University of Glasgow) presented research at both the SEMIT satellite meeting and TERMIS-EU 2026 in Palma de Mallorca. Rodgers also chaired a session on managing and growing an academic research team, building leadership experience alongside scientific exchange.
Understanding cancer dormancy
Dr Matthew J Walker (University of Glasgow) presented work on modelling breast cancer dormancy in the bone marrow niche at TERMIS-EU 2026. The meeting prompted connections and discussions with researchers tackling related questions in mechanobiology, disease modelling and translation.
Leading a cell-therapy symposium
Amaziah Ron Alipio (University of Birmingham / Chulalongkorn University) co-chaired and helped organise a TERMIS-EU symposium on cell-surface engineering for next-generation cell therapies. The opportunity combined international presentation, conference leadership and networking with researchers working across biomaterials and cell engineering.
