TCES Net meeting, Winter 2020

We are delighted to invite you to the launch of the UCL Centre for 3D models of health and disease.

The Centre for 3D models of health and disease focuses on developing biomimetic tissue models to study fundamental tissue biology and the impact of disease progression on tissue form and function. We bio-engineer advanced tissue models and cover a range of tissues from skeletal muscle to tendon and skin. The centre also works on biomimetic models of cancer, which we term tumouroids, engineering distinct cancer masses within complex stromal compartments to study cancer invasion and metastasis. These models have been used to interrogate the actions of chemotherapeutic drugs and other therapeutic modalities.

The event will be held at Charles Bell House (UCL) in 43-45 Foley Street, London (W1W 7TS) on the 20th January 2020 from 11am to 3pm.

The meeting is kindly funded by TCES Net and Lonza.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Meeting announcement: Mercia Stem Cell Alliance (MSCA) Meeting, December 17th

The Mercia Stem Cell Alliance nucleates notable regional Centres of Excellence supporting the translation of innovative basic stem cell research to effective therapies. By harnessing the expertise of its members, the Alliance aims to facilitate the essential development and promotion of stem cell research in the region.

At the MSCA Annual Conference, more than 150 delegates from all over the nation discuss and present the state of the art of their research.  This year, the Annual Conference will take place on December 17th at the University of Chester and will be chaired by Prof. Eustace Johnson from Chester Medical School. The main conference will feature guest speakers Professor Matthew Dalby (Glasgow) and Professor Uri Frank (NUI Galway).

The Conference will be preceded by a Young Investigators Workshop on ‘extracellular vesicles and the wider cell secretome’, on December 16th, which will provide lectures and practical demonstrations on cutting-edge methods and developments in the area, and how they can be applied for stem cell research. A poster with further information on speakers presenting at the event is attached.

Information on how to register for the meeting can be found here: https://storefront.chester.ac.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=701

This will include a set of talks and discussions with world leaders in biomaterial based fields, from both industrial and academic backgrounds, with in-depth discussions and Q&A sessions to achieve an interactive workshop environment.

Slots are still open available for poster presentations with submissions closing on 1st December – just email BiomaterialsDiscovery@nottingham.ac.uk with a title and brief abstract to apply.

Invited Speakers include:

Prof. Jennifer Elisseeff (Johns Hopkins)
CEO Ann Kramer (Electrospinning Co.)
Prof. Tim Tolker-Nielson (University of Copenhagen)
Prof. Alvaro Mata (University of Nottingham)
Dr. Omid Veiseh (Rice University, Texas)

Workshop opportunity: “Musculoskeletal Tissue Regeneration: From Mechanobiology to In Vitro/In Vivo Models and Advanced Imaging”

There is a 3nd INTERREG – 8th TERMIS Winterschool 2020 on “Musculoskeletal Tissue Regeneration: From Mechanobiology to In Vitro/In Vivo Models and Advanced Imaging” in Radstadt, Salzburg, Austria from January 12th-15th, 2020.

This is both a great opportunity for students to get first-hand experience in performing preclinical (in vitro and in vivo) models as well as in vivo imaging and European networking with team activities in a beautiful environment and ski slopes just 100m from the meeting venue. There is also a possibility to present posters on the workshop’s topic.

RSC Biomaterials Chemistry meeting – 9-11 Jan 2020

Please note information below regarding RSC Biomaterials Chemistry Annual Conference 2019, 9 January 2019 12:00 – 11 January 2019 13:00, Liverpool

http://www.rsc.org/events/detail/35364/rsc-biomaterials-chemistry-annual-conference-2019

The annual RSC Biomaterials chemistry meeting brings together researchers from across the UK and internationally, working to advance knowledge and focus on biomaterial chemistry research and development.

The event aims to enhance the understanding of the chemistries underlying the use of biomaterials in applications including antimicrobial surfaces, drug delivery and regenerative medicine. The focus of this years meeting is Anti-Infective Materials and Device Related Infections, Biomaterials for Therapeutic Delivery, Biomaterials for Tissue Induction and Regenerative Medicine and Bioresponsive Surfaces.

Currently, our plenary speakers are Professor Robert Hancock (University of British Columbia, Canada), Professor John Fisher (Leeds), Professor Graham Leggett (University of Sheffield) and Professor Rasmita Raval (University of Liverpool).

TERMIS 2020 – Save the date

The 2020 Tissue and Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society EU meeting will be held in sunny Manchester from 26th-29th May 2020. TCES will be featured at this conference, and will not have a standalone conference in 2020. Please come back soon for more information!

Lectureship available at University of Manchester

The School of Biological Sciences invite applications for a Lecturer in Stem Cell Biology/ Regenerative Medicine to further our world-leading research and teaching in this field. You will have complementary research interests that not only span stem cells and regenerative medicine, but can capitalise on the opportunities available from the unique environment offered in Manchester for collaboration with colleagues working in basic biology through to translational therapies.

You will be supported in developing your own lab and research programme at the University of Manchester from which you will grow an international reputation in the field. You will benefit from joining an established community of collegiate researchers including membership of the Manchester Regenerative Medicine Network and affiliation to the Wellcome Trust Centre for Cell-Matrix Research.
